PRA project reports assistant

Privacy

This site is a few static pages. It sets no cookies and writes nothing to your device at all: no cookie, no local storage, no session storage.

The pages do count how they are used. A measurement script records which of three things happened, holds its identifiers for one page load and forgets them when the page closes. That script, the access log any web server writes, and an email you choose to send are the three places a person can appear here. Each is described below.

Nothing is stored on your device

The pages keep no state in your browser. There is no cookie, nothing in local storage and nothing in session storage, so there is nothing here for you to consent to, inspect or clear, and the site behaves identically when browser storage is blocked entirely.

The measurement described below runs in a storage-free mode for the same reason: it neither reads nor writes local storage, session storage or cookies, and it clears any identifier an earlier version of this site may have left behind.

What is measured

A measurement script served from analyze.alps-project.online records three things and nothing else. That a page was opened, once per page load. That a report was opened, naming which of the three sample reports was chosen from the main page. That the contact button was used, meaning someone started the step towards sending an email; the button opens your own mail client, and nothing you then write passes through this site.

Nothing else on the page is recorded. Scrolling, pointer movement, reading time, every other link and every heading you expand are not measured.

Each event carries context about the visit rather than the visitor: the page path without its query string, the referring site’s hostname without the path, any campaign labels in the link you followed, your browser language, a broad device and platform class, a viewport size bucket, and the time. It also carries a version of this site, so an old recording stays interpretable.

Identifiers for the visit are generated when the page loads and held in the script’s memory. They are not written to your device, so a reload is a new visit and a return tomorrow cannot be connected to today. That is a deliberate trade: the counts are less precise, and there is nothing on your device to consent to or to clear.

What is never sent: form contents, names, email addresses, tokens, repository data, full page or referrer URLs, your IP address as part of an event, page text, pointer coordinates, and anything derived from your device to fingerprint it. The script is also subordinate to the page. Blocking it changes nothing you can see, and if it fails every link still works.

What the site does not do

No cookie is set, first-party or third-party. There is no tracking pixel, no session recording, no fingerprinting and no profile that follows you between visits or between sites.

The measurement service is ours and is used by no advertising network. Apart from it, no font, script, stylesheet or image comes from another domain, so visiting this site tells no third party that you did.

There is nothing to sign up for, no form to submit and no payment processing. There is no advertising, no profiling and no automated decision-making about you. Nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.

Server logs

The pages are served as static files by a hosting provider. Like any web server, it writes a standard access log: the requesting IP address, the time, the page requested, the response status, and the browser’s user-agent and referrer strings.

Those logs exist to keep the site running and to deal with abuse. They are not joined to anything else, not used to build a profile of a visitor, and not shared except where the law requires it.

If you email us

The contact route is an ordinary email you send yourself. There is no form on this site, so nothing reaches us until you decide to write. When you do, we receive your address, your name as your mail client presents it, whatever you write, and the repository you ask about. That is used for one purpose: to agree the scope of a report and send it back to you.

Correspondence is kept while it is relevant to the work and deleted on request. It is not added to a mailing list, not used for unrelated marketing and not passed to anyone else. Your message travels through your mail provider and ours, and neither this page nor this site changes how those providers handle it.

Data in the reports

The reports published here analyse the public history of open-source repositories. They cite pull request numbers, commit hashes, file paths and released versions, all of which are already public on GitHub.

They do not publish contributors’ names, account handles, email addresses or any contact details, and they draw no conclusions about individuals: a measurement quoted from a pull request is attributed to “the PR author”, never to a person by name. A report is independent analysis of a public project, not commissioned by it and not endorsed by it. Contributors to a reviewed repository can ask for a correction. Write to pra@alps-project.online with the finding and what it gets wrong, and it will be corrected or removed.

Your rights and changes to this page

Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to its use, and to complain to a supervisory authority. In practice the only personal data here is an email thread you started, so a request to delete it is honoured by deleting that thread. Send any such request to pra@alps-project.online.

If this page changes, the date below changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, so the version on this page is always the current one.
